It is easy to reach a certain age, with your career and lifestyle mapped out and comfortable, and then settle in for the long haul, content in what you already know. Once we finish our formal education it’s too easy to think we’re done. However, the realization that you are probably going to live another 30, 40 or even 50 years should startle you into action. It’s an awfully long time to not be learning anything new or expanding your knowledge.
The value of having a commitment to knowledge acknowledges that while comfort and ease might be abundant in your life, there’s enormous value in constantly and consciously developing your mind, and your sense of self. Whether you pick one field and become an expert in it, or decide to broaden your knowledge of many things, a commitment to self knowledge will enrich your life forever.
