Branching Scenarios = Serious Learning Games?

May 2, 2018

Michael Allen in his 'Guide to eLearning'  says the purpose of e-learning is 'the development of valued performance skills, including skills in which decision-making and strategy determine success.'

Let's compare his checklist for Serious Learning Games with the characteristics of well designed branching scenarios:

(Reference Michael Allen for Serious Learning Games and Cathy Moore for Branching Scenarios)

For me as a learning designer this is a fantastic overlap - it puts the design of serious learning games within reach, with minimal costly resources.  I use BranchTrack to design my scenarios as they are incredibly intuitive, offer large variety of contexts and are very affordable.

I can achieve a great user experience that is motivational, challenging and above all effective.
