Are generic LMS' giving you all you need?

May 14, 2018

There are many LMS platforms available and new ones keep coming on to the market.  The question then is which is the best and how to optimise your spend?  It's a vital decision because once you have made your choice, chances are you will be locked in for a good few years, and so you'll want to make sure you are getting as much value as you can from your investment.

Most commercially available generic LMS systems have been thoroughly designed to be highly customizable, they provide a seamless user interface that has been tested and de-bugged.  They  often have authoring tools built in and allow the learning designer many options in terms of content design.

However, the one key downside of using a generic LMS is that you don't get any industry specific advice or knowledge from your vendor.  If everyone is using the same system, and getting the same information and learner experience, it is hard to maximize the competitive advantage that would be possible on an LMS designed specifically for your industry.

By choosing to invest in and commit to an LMS that is designed specifically for your industry, you also get the people involved who know your industry and would be able to provide you with insight and advice which is unique to your needs.  This may give you a competitive edge which you can use to your advantage.
